I like coming to NPVH. I always get good care and the doctors truly care about me.
– Princess Polly Pipssqueak S.
Dr. Martin has been taking care of my 4 babies (cats) ranging in ages of 7-17 years for 13 years. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for care. Dr. Martin is better than a PCP for care- she doesn’t rush and explains everything to the parents. What is really great is that she is open to new therapies for our pets.

Dr. Suzanne Martin
Owner
Animals have always fascinated Dr. Martin, and she’s always believed that their unconditional love must be rewarded with compassion, pain relief, and love. This is what led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, a career that has evolved to the point of understanding the need for pain relief at all costs. She established Northern Pike Veterinary Hospital on April 1, 1993, and has enjoyed relieving pain and suffering for pets of various species ever since. She also enjoys working with a phenomenal team that works hard, but still knows how to have fun.
Dr. Martin completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh (BS in chemistry, class of 1984) and Duquesne University (BS in biology, class of 1986), and later earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio University. She also completed continuing education in veterinary acupuncture. Her specialties now include geriatrics, pain management, mobility enhancement, and physical therapy.
Dr. Martin and her husband, Dean, have three sons: Michael, Dean Tyler, and Jeremy. She also has more than a dozen animals at home, including three horses (Junior, Jetta, and Pony), five goats, three chickens, three cats, a dog, a parrot, and a rabbit. In her spare time, she enjoys working around her farm, traveling, and gardening.
Dr. William P. Schessler
Dr. Schessler earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University in 1995 and joined our team in July of the same year. As one of our associate veterinarians, he loves seeing animals that were once ill and/or in pain recover and lead happy, healthy lives. He is a member of a number of organizations, including the AVMA, YMCA, Knights of Columbus, and PADI. Dr. Schessler shares his home with a dog and two cats. When he’s not at work, he enjoys spending time with his three children and running. In fact, he completed the Pittsburgh marathon five times.
Dr. Annette Haggerty
Dr. Haggerty earned her Veterinary Medicine Doctoris from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 and joined our team soon after. She has a special interest in small mammals and is affiliated with the AVMA. She and her husband, Darren, have a son named Henry and a mixed dog named Rudy. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, listening to music, and spending time with family.
